Discussion of a GIS project which relied heavily on community participation in Lebanon. Over the past 50 years, the Lebanese agricultural sector has witnessed a major shift from a low-input, extensive farming system aimed at staples and some fruit production to an intensive, land-limited and horticulture-based system. It is widely acknowledged that current farming practices are unsustainable and that land degradation is advancing.
